Two Day Life Skills Enhancement Workshop on "Holistic Wellbeing and Resilience"

PG Department of English organised a two-day workshop titled “Holistic Wellbeing and Resilience” on 10th and 11th October 2023. The aim of the workshop is to provide adaptive, emotional and positive behaviour that enable students to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.
The Day 1 (10.10.2023) Session 1 : was commenced with the college prayer followed by Welcome address. Then Mr. J. Praveen Prabhu felicitated the speaker Mr. Tarun Murugesh, Lifeguard Instructor & Master First Aid Trainer. The speaker shared the importance of Lifeskills training to the students. He said ‘by equipping individuals with life skills, first aid knowledge, and defense skills, they are better prepared to handle emergencies, protect themselves and others, and make informed decisions in various aspects of life’. He conducted various practical sessions life defense strategies, first aid, CPR for both adults and infants. These activities contributed to building resilient and capable students who can navigate everyday challenges.
The Day 1 Session 2 Resource person was Ms. R. Aswini, Assistant Professor & Head Department of Psychology, DDGDVC. The speaker shared the importance of “Emotional intelligence and life skills”. She conducted activities that help students in critically analysing circumstances. EQ also helps individuals remain calm and think critically in stressful situations, which leads to an improvement in their problem-solving abilities. This session enhanced students in understanding how emotions influence decision-making and problem-solving.
The Day 2 (11.10.2023) Session 1 titled “Practicing the Art of Yoga” was conducted by Mrs. Thenmozhi Srinivasan, Yoga Guru, Sachidananda Yoga Academy, Chennai. The Yoga Session included ‘Pranayama’ breathing techniques to help students in breath regulation. Breathing activities benefited students by calming the mind and body. Pranaya activities so ensure students to help reduce stress and anxiety levels
The Day 2 Session 2 Resource person was Dr. P. Muthupandi Selvi, Associate Professor of English, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education. The speaker educated the students on the topic "Self-Care and Self Compassion". She enlightened the students on self-care and its importance, self-compassion, financial independence and security.
Outcome of the Programme:
Students understood the various facets of Lifeskills, Yoga and Self-care training. They were motivated to participate in the events conducted during the workshop. It helped students be aware on various factors that protect their mental health and psychological wellbeing.
