A Five day Workshop on "Competencies to enhance Research Writing"
A five-day workshop was held from 17th to 21st October in Shri Vallabhacharya Vidhya Saba for the PG department of English, for the enhancement of writing skills. For each of these day, different resource person were brought in, to make the workshop, resourceful for the students.
The resource person for the first day of the workshop, which was on 17th October, was Dr. Karthiga S.V, Assistant professor of English department in SRM institute of science and technology. Dr. Karthiga enlightened the students on the topic "Writing research articles". This speaker spoke in length and in excellence about the different perspectives of research writing and its importance to the students.
The next day of the workshop, which was 18th October, was taken over by Mr. V. Ramakrishnan who was a content developer and a research scholar from University of Madras. He focused and highlighted about the art of “Persuasive writing”. Different techniques of persuasive writing were discussed and it was very much enriching for the students.
The third day of the workshop, had Dr. Mary Thomas, English professor of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute, who presented about the Etymological transformation of English language in the digital era. In the field of English, various advancements had taken place, which had its own impact. Students interacted with the resource person with good enthusiasm.
The day 4 of the workshop was engaged by two resource persons. Firstly by Dr. R. Azhagarasan, English professor of University of Madras. Secondly by Dr. D.Venkatramanan, English professor of Madras University. Both scholars enriched the audience on the topic "skills of Translation". As a new track of career, the scholars recommended the field of translation and explained the scope for a translator. It evoked many students’ interest to translating works.
The last
day of workshop was on 21st October. The keynote speaker of this session was
Dr. K. S Antonysamy, Head and associate professor of department of English,
Loyola college. The resource person shed
light on "Academic writing". He elucidated many unknown techniques on academic writing which aroused
interest among students. On the whole,
this workshop was so remarkable and very productive for the students. With these informative sessions students
acquired many fruitful tips, which would be really helpful in molding their
career paths in future.
