Detailed report on the event:

          Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College conducted Deeksharambh: Student Induction Programme 2023 from 3rd to 14th July 2023.

On Day 1, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session 'About the Department and courses ' by Mr. J. Praveen Prabhu, Head and Assistant Professor. In this session he gave a detailed insight on the Department profile, faculty introduction, Student self introduction, their interests, ambitions and achievements. It was an ice breaking session for the students. The second session in Dwaraka Auditorium was conducted by Dr. S. Santosh Baboo on 'Inauguration and Orientation about the Institute'. Secondly, Chief guests- CA. Chandrashekar Kupperi, Founder, ANOVA Corporate Services and  Ms. Harshini Saravana, Tax Assistant, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs addressed the students on the importance of 'Aspirations, Imagination, Achieving Goals, Believing oneself and Career path.






On Day 2, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session on 'Significance of Outreach activities and Opportunities' by Ms. Nandhini Praveen, Assistant Professor. In this session, the resource person gave a detailed presentation on topics like Extension Activities, Outreach Programmes, Library visit, Conferences, Industrial and Field Visit. Finally she conducted a quick quiz to Enhance their memory. 



The second session was on the topic 'The Difficulty in being ‘you’, and the barriers of Communication' conducted by Dr. R. Elangovan, Head and Assistant Professor, A.M. Jain College. He enlightened the students on various topics like Communication, it's importance and the significance of leading a healthy life. He conducted various activities like Newspaper reading, poetry listening, blog writing, tongue twisters and story telling. 


 The Third session of the day conducted by Alumni members - Ms. Shruthika, I MA & Ms. Janani. A, Trainee-EnTrust Software and Services who interacted with the students on their experiences in college, placement opportunities and professional development.


On Day 3, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session on 'We are all on the same page' by
Dr. M. Mani, Librarian, DDGDVC. The Resource person presented a detailed insight on the various Library resources, books and e-resources available in college. 



Secondly, this was followed by a motivational talk by Kalaimani Ms. Thenmozhi Srinivasan, Sachidanantha Yoga Nilayam on 'Refinement in approaches towards health and fitness'. She enlightened the students on the importance of Yoga and various breathing techniques to improve one's daily life.



Thirdly, the last session for the day was conducted by Ms. Raveena Neeraj Kumar, Assistant Professor on 'Teaching Learning Resources and Disciplinary Guidelines'. She delivered a detailed presentation on various topics like Discipline and dress code, LMS & attendance, certificate courses offered by the department-NPTEL courses, Swayam. 


On Day 4, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session on 'Learn the art of Communication Skills' by
Dr. P. Suresh, Assistant Professor, Department of English-Shift- I. The main objective of the lecture is to enrich students in English Communication. 



The second session on 'Learning and Mentoring' by  Dr. Lakshmy Ravindranathan, Assistant Professor. She presented a Lecture on Mentor Mentee, Parent Mentoring, Examination pattern, Syllabus, CIA, OBE, ESE, Generic Skills. She also conducted a fun activity on story telling through pictures.





On Day 5, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session on 'Placements and Career opportunities: An insight'. The main objective of this session is to give a detailed insight on Placement opportunities in the college and Career Opportunities after graduation. The resource person conducted various fun activities like mock interview and  logical reasoning.





On Day 6, The P.G Department of English conducted the first session on 'Clubs Manual' by Dr. Keerthana. R, Assistant Professor enriching the students on Department Club Activities, Magazines and blog. 


The second session on 'Enhancing Academics: Exploring Workshops and Seminars' was conducted by Ms. Dhanalakshmi N, Assistant Professor. The lecture focussed on Workshop, Guest Lectures, Seminar and Conferences. This session was followed by interaction with PG students by Sharing their experience and knowledge gained from college and Fostering freshers and bonding with juniors. 


The fourth and fifth session included fun activities and games conducted by G.M. Prem Kumar, Assistant Professor and student volunteers. This last two sessions encouraged students on exposing their talents and participating in various games like Shipwreck, Spin a yarn and Dumb charades to build team building amongst students.

  

Outcomes of the Programme :

              Students felt welcomed and encouraged which helped them adjust and feel comfortable in the new environment. It helped them inculcate the ethos and culture of the institution, helping them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to a sense of larger purpose and self exploration. The students were greatly benefited by the programme.
