Seminar on Ecocriticism

DETAILED REPORT OF THE EVENT

On July 28, 2023, two resource persons were invited to talk in the Seminar on Ecocriticism. The first session was by Dr. Kalyani Pricilla, Assistant Professor fromA nna University. She threw light on the topic "An Ecofeminist reading of Mahashweta Devi's Witch". She also mentioned other subjects related to ecocriticism like Ecofeminist critics from all over the world, Patriarchy and extra activism, renowned Indian and western ecofeminist writers, pioneers who examined the ecofeminist movement.She also shared information about the lives of Tribals in the Rhota Hills.

      Dr.Shoba. K. N, Associate Professor of English at the National Institute for Technical Teachers Training and Research, Taramani was the resourse person for the second session.She provoided the students with the knowledge on land ethics, climate change, and the impact of COVID on human relationship .She also introduced various topics related to ecocriticism, a few of them are, neologisms, transdisciplinary methods, postcolonial ecocriticism. The students were made aware of the recent trends in ecocriticism, Anthroprocene ecocriticism, Zoo criticism, phyto criticism, Ecomedia Studies and ecolinguistics. The seminar was instrumental in educating related terms on neologisms like Tierratrauma, Psychoterratic, somaterratic, Meteor anxiety and Terrafurie. She also referred a few texts on Eco-critical literature. Ecocriticism of the global south can employ a wild abandon approach to enhance knowledge in ecocriticism.  

Outcome of the event:

Students had the opportunity to learn more about ecocriticism, thanks to the Seminar's wealth of environmental concepts related to the research study. The students gained insights in the relationship between literature and ecocriticism. They learned new Vocabulary like Terraphthora, Teranascia terraphththoric, meteoranxiety, Tierratrauma, Psychoterratic, somaterratic and also how to preserve the natural world.
