Five-Day Online Faculty Development Programme on "Re-envisioning English Studies: Emerging Trends & Pedagogical Innovations"

The PG Department of English, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College, commenced its Five-Day Online Faculty Development Programme on "Re-envisioning English Studies: Emerging Trends & Pedagogical Innovations" on 8th December 2025, held through the Zoom platform and streamed live through YouTube. A total of 249 participants from different states of India including Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal registered for the event. Principal Capt. Dr. S. Santhosh Baboo addressed the gathering talking about the relevance of the topic of FDP in today's world. Dr. J. Praveen Prabhu, Head of the PG Department of English shared his insights on the various topics dealt by the resource persons of the FDP.

Day 1 featured Dr. V. Iswarya, Assistant Professor, Department of Liberal Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru, as the resource person. Her session on “Literary Discourse Beyond the Postmodern” highlighted the shifting landscape of literary studies and the intellectual move from postmodern thought towards newer interpretative frameworks.

Day 2 of the FDP was on the topic, "Posthumanism and Eco-Criticism: Reimagining Literature in the Anthropocene Era" delivered by Dr. M. Nathiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, Culture and Society, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram. She discussed the need for decentering of human beings and the importance of developing ecoconscious and posthumanist approach in anthropocene era.

Dr. A. Lincy Linnette, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of English, Loyola College, Nungambakkam was the resource person of Day 3 of the FDP, delivering a lecture on "Emerging Trends in Inclusive ELT Approaches, " she showcased the need for research in ELT approaches which can encourage inclusivity in education system.

Day 4 of the FDP featured an insightful session by Dr. Y. John Ilavarasu, Assistant Professor, Department of English, A. M. Jain College, Chennai. He delivered a thought-provoking talk on the topic “History through Memory: Rewriting the Past,” highlighting how collective and individual memories shape historical narratives.

Day 5 of the FDP featured an enlightening session by Dr. P. Sathya, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Holy Cross College, Kanyakumari. Her talk on “AI in ELT: Ethical, Pedagogical, and Practical Perspectives” explored the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary language teaching. She emphasized ethical concerns, classroom applications, and the responsible use of AI in ELT. 

Outcome of Event:

The participants learnt emerging trends in literature and English Language Teaching.

They gained perspectives on evolving interdisciplinary research.

The session enhanced knowledge, critical thinking and analytical thinking of the participants.
