A Report on Journey Towards Good Health & Quality Education - An Outreach Programme
The PG Department of English, Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College (Autonomous), under Vaishnav Social Responsibility, organised an outreach programme titled “Journey Towards Good Health & Quality Education” on 9 January 2026 at Chennai Primary School, Annaisivagami Nagar, Ennore, at 9.00 a.m. The programme aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).
The initiative aimed to sensitise school children to the importance of healthy living and the value of education through age-appropriate interactive sessions. Faculty members and student volunteers engaged the children through storytelling, simple health-awareness activities, reading practices, and value-based discussions. Emphasis was laid on personal hygiene, nutrition, regular physical activity, and the role of education in shaping a better future.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. J. Praveen Prabhu, Head of the Department, with the support of Capt. Dr. S. Santhosh Baboo, Principal, and Dr. Ashok Kumar Mundhra, Secretary. The event was coordinated by Ms. Kadambari R and Mr. P. V. Narasimmarao, Assistant Professors, with active involvement from student coordinators Abishek Suhin (II MA) and Prarthana B (II MA).
The outreach programme successfully fostered social responsibility among postgraduate students while positively impacting the school children, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to community engagement and holistic education.

The programme improved awareness among school children about basic health practices, nutrition, and personal hygiene, contributing to their overall well-being in line with SDG 3.
Interactive learning activities encouraged interest in reading and learning, reinforcing the importance of education and lifelong learning in support of SDG 4.
The participating postgraduate students developed a deeper sense of civic engagement, empathy, and social responsibility through direct community interaction and service learning.
