Lecture on " Enriching Reading Activities: A Visit to British Council Library"

Dhanalakshmi Report of the event: The PG Department of English organized a lecture on " Enriching Reading Activities: A Visit to British Council Library " in collaboration with the British Council, Chennai, for the benefit of the students. The resource person was Mr. Rubin Sharoon , Senior English Language Teacher, British Council. The event took place in the British Council Library. The speaker started the event with interesting activities. He also explained in detail about the courses offered by the British Council. Commemoration of International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition

Department of English celebrated International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition for the II BA Students on 23rd August, 2023. The Resource person was Dr. Nagarani , Assistant Professor, Anna Adarsh College, Chennai. She was introduced by Aswini from II BA English. Dr. Nagarani's talk which was titled " Slavery in America: Abolitionist and Slave Narrative " was comprehensive in relation to the history of slavery in the United States of America. The resource person was Dr. N. Bindu , Assistant Professor, Presidency College, Chennai. She was introduced by Aswini from II BA English. Dr. Bindu's talk was titled "Why Feminism?: An Overview" eloquently outlined the phases of the feminist movement. The Resource Person explained the differences between the term 'man' and 'male' and 'woman' and 'female' respectively. Department of English conducted the fourth session of ABL Activity Based Learning - Gamification with modals for the students of BA English. The main objective of the ABL Club is to enrich students in English Grammar, vocabulary, English skills and competency skills. An interactive and fun ABL session was conducted on Modal Verbs. This session was important for students to enrich their daily learning in English. It enhances a speaker in speaking ability, making requests and offers, asking permission, and more. The session consisted of various activities using ICT tools including activities like learning modals through question making, Traffic rules and modals, crossword puzzles and modal verbs. The first session was by Dr. Kalyani Pricilla , Assistant Professor fromA nna University. She threw light on the topic " An Ecofeminist reading of Mahashweta Devi's  Witch ". She also mentioned other subjects related to ecocriticism like Ecofeminist critics from all over the world, Patriarchy and extra activism, renowned Indian and western ecofeminist writers, pioneers who examined the ecofeminist movement.She also shared information about the lives of Tribals in the Rhota Hills.       Dr.Shoba. Library Visit to US Consulate General

Dhanalakshmi                                       Ms. Nandhini Praveen The students of the PG Department of English visited the American Consulate on 6th July, 2023 as part of an experiential visit. A total number of 31 students from II M.A. and 2 faculty members were able to go to the library. The students gained good exposure in this visit as they spent more than 2 hours in the library. Moreover, all 31 students were able to get their membership and be there for the entire process.          Some of the benefits of this visit will be in terms of producing quality research papers, journal, articles and all the more, increasing one's critical area of thinking with all the extensive collection of books, journals and other research materials that covered a wide range of interests and academic disciplines available there. The students of both UG and PG participated in presenting their artworks related to literature. The event took place in the first floor, Bhasha Sangam. The gallery was filled with a wide range of arts and crafts, portraying various themes prescribed in the syllabus. Paintings, photographs, poems, and several chart works and models were displayed by the students. There was a sense of excitement as the audience and the faculties admired these artworks. The students of I and II MA English organized awareness and cultural programme in Sankalp, The Open school at Shenoy Nagar. They engaged the special students with games, dance and singing to showcase their talents. The programme started by facilitating the Founder and the Principal of the school. Our student initiated the event by presenting   awareness   talks on food habits and on the idea of consent . The students also conducted games effectively and the children took part with enthusiasm. The competition was held on 12 th April 2023. The students surprised the gathering with their enthusiastic participation. The judge of the event, Dr. P. Prasanna addressed the audience on the importance and relevance of the topic in contemporary society. The winners of the competition were announced by the judge. Outcomes of the event: The students were able to demonstrate their oratorical skills. The event helped them gain exposure while motivating others to participate in such events in future.
